2013-2014 Boren Scholarship

Campus Deadline - Feb 1, 2013
The Boren Scholarships of the National Security Education Program provide a unique funding opportunity for U.S. students to study world regions critical to U.S. interests (including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East). The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded. Boren Scholars are awarded up to $20,000 for an academic year.

Summer/Fall/Year 2013 Gilman Scholarships

Online Application Deadline: March 5, 2013
The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards (up to $5000 to $8000) for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding to participate in summer or semester-long study abroad programs worldwide. 2014 Critical Language Scholarships

2014 Deadline: November 2013
Sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the Council of American Overseas Research Centers(CAORC), the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program will offer intensive summer language institutes overseas in eleven critical need foreign languages, including Arabic and Chinese.

Forum Undergraduate Research Award

The Forum Undergraduate Research Award is an honor that showcases the most rigorous and significant undergraduate research that occurs as part of education abroad programs. Glimpse Correspondents Program

This is a chance for students, volunteers, teachers, and other young travelers who are going abroad next semester to get their stories published at high-profile publications--and to get paid for it. Powered by Matador, and supported in part by the National Geographic Society, the Glimpse Correspondents Program provides talented writers and photographers between the ages of 18-36 with a $600 stipend as well as one on one editorial training and support to complete an independent journalistic work based on their experience abroad. http://glimpse.org/correspondents

2014-15 Fulbright U.S. Student Program

Campus application deadline: Oct. 3, 2013
The Fulbright Program designed to “increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries” has provided more than 1500 students each year with the opportunity for studying, assistant-teaching English, or conducting research abroad. The award benefits include international airfare, stipend for living costs, insurance, and tuition, etc. You may contact the Fulbright Program Advisor Dr. Steven Broad if you are interested in the scholarship.

NYT looking for student photographs to publish Aug. 4

The New York Times is looking for creative photographs from college students who are far from home (more than 50 miles). Selected photos will be published in the August 4 issue of Education Life. They want a photo of the student in his or her home environment (not college environment). Deadline: July 8. See link for details and form. Please have students reply only to the Times.
