Poland to Prague
The essence of the Poland to Prague study program is to introduce participants to the depth and breath of the history and culture of Central Europe, focusing on Poland and the Czech Republic. Participants can explore a part of the world that has been submerged in the shadows for half a century and is now emerging into a transformed and radiant life of its own.
Walking lecture tours are organized for three primary cities: Warsaw, Krakow, and Prague. These cities are ideal settings to discuss contemporary European history and events including the Jewish pogroms, World War II, Communist occupation, the appointment of Pope John Paul II, and the formation of the European Union. The program will also examine medieval and renaissance history and culture, the Hapsburg Empire, and 19th century economic development. Students will have daily opportunities to explore, shop, and test their language skills with local merchants and café owners.
Students earn one credit for the program, which is open to all majors and scheduled for spring break . Enrollment is on a first-come basis and is open to the first 30 students.
