Honduras Spring Break

The Honduras program is offering a spring break service-learning trip in March 2014. This program offers one credit through either the InterCultural Studies or Justice Education programs at Saint Mary's College.

We will spend most of the week at Hogar Diamante, a home for boys who have become involved in petty crime and gangs. While we are working, we will get to know the boys, learn about the challenges facing Honduran youth and families in Honduras and observe Hogar’s holistic and loving response. Past groups have done painting and fixing up of the home's classrooms and dormitories though the highlight of the trip is always spending time with the boys.

The trip will also include some sightseeing in the capital of Tegucigalpa and presentations that will help us learn more about the political and social realities in one of Latin America's poorest countries.

Honduras Spring Break Program 2014

How much does it Cost? The program fee is $2000 which covers transportation, Academic credit, food and lodging.  Group fundraising can lower this cost.

Are there any additional costs? $100-$150 for souvenirs, gifts, cyber café, and long distance calls. 

What other materials are required?  One letter of reference to Marc Belanger, Program Coordinator, Department of Political Science.
